The theme of this year’s event is Small Businesses, Big Impact: Celebrating Black & African American Economic Power.

This year’s Awards Gala will celebrate the power of small businesses and the individuals who drive them. We will recognize outstanding leaders in various categories, like:

Exemplary Community Partner Award Port of Hueneme, Oxnard Harbor District – This award celebrates an organization that epitomizes fostering partnerships, contributing resources, and engaging in initiatives that crucially benefit the community. The Port of Hueneme, Oxnard Harbor District, is recognized for its unwavering support and vital role as the preeminent economic growth engine in our region. The Port’s contributions include generating a $1.5 billion economic impact, supporting over 13,000 jobs, and facilitating over $9 billion in trade annually. Their commitment to community engagement and economic development makes them a standout partner in fostering regional prosperity.

Rising Star Echo Boomer
Award – Shenee Randolph, Ms Naestyles. – This award celebrates a young entrepreneur who has shown exceptional promise and innovation in their field. Shenee Randolph, the owner of Ms. Nea’s Styles, is recognized for her dynamic approach to business and her significant contributions to the beauty industry. Her creation of Ms. Nae Style’s Growth and Beard Oils has garnered widespread acclaim, and her dedication to balancing the demands of business ownership with a grounded and grateful mindset sets her apart as a rising star in the community. Additionally, Shenee’s role in founding Blacks N Business (BNB) highlights her commitment to supporting and empowering other entrepreneurs.

Technology and Community Service Leadership Award –
Jeffrey McKenzie, McKenzie Systems Engineering Associates – This award recognizes a leader whose company excels in serving the government with technical brilliance, supporting the local community with a service business, and establishing a cultural foundation. Jeffrey McKenzie, the founder and CEO of McKenzie Systems Engineering Associates, has significantly impacted government services, local community support, and cultural foundations. His company’s contributions include providing engineering solutions for complex systems, supporting test and evaluation, and offering combat system documentation support. Additionally, Jeffrey owns Exquisite Barbershop, known for its luxury grooming services, and founded the Rhodes Fest Concerts Foundation, which celebrates the iconic Rhodes Piano through concert events. Jeffrey’s versatile service consciousness and dedication to both technical excellence and community engagement make him a standout leader in his field.

Lifetime Achievement Award –
Dr. Irene Pinkard, Pinkard Educational Institute, Pinkard Innovate Enterprises This award honors the preeminent Dr. Irene Pinkard, a retired educator, former city council member, and entrepreneur. Through her work with the Pinkard Educational Institute and Pinkard Innovate Enterprises, and as the founder of the HBCU College Tour and the African American Enrichment Academy (AAEA) summer youth program at CSU Channel Islands, Dr. Pinkard has made unparalleled contributions to education, community service, and youth empowerment. Her dedication to social justice and educational equity has left a lasting impact on the community.

Contractor Excellence Award
This award recognizes a company that has demonstrated exceptional performance and excellence in contracting services. JSL Technologies, Inc., led by Joe Black, is celebrated for its outstanding contributions to government contracting, providing innovative solutions and exceptional service. The company’s expertise in engineering, logistics, and program management has significantly enhanced the capabilities and efficiency of their clients. JSL Technologies, Inc. has evolved through the SBA’s 8(a) Business Development Program and is a certified Small Disadvantaged Business and Veteran-Owned Small Business. Their journey through these programs has enabled them to secure significant contracts and deliver high-quality services. Additionally, JSL Technologies, Inc. has been honored with the 2017 Department of Homeland Security Small Business Achievement Award for their exceptional work in support of the DHS mission. CEO’s Choice Award –
Nesta CampbellThis award honors Nesta Campbell, a benevolent leader who has worked tirelessly and often under the radar. As an educator, civil rights advocate, minister, philanthropist, and board member, Nesta has made lasting contributions across various fields. She has served as a retired Education Program Specialist, ministered in Africa, and advocated for countless community members in need. Additionally, Nesta is a board member of the Mossy Foot Project, which provides life-changing resources to patients in Ethiopia. The CEO recognizes Nesta as a great giver whose selfless dedication has profoundly impacted many lives.
